Program Overview
The Pre-Kindergarten program builds upon the Pre-School portion of the program. Here the program utilizes the Reading by 5 mandate set by President Bill Clinton. The students are also introduced to Reading First, a program that is currently used by Baltimore City Public Schools.
These students develop language skills, shapes and color recognition, large and small motor skills, number recognition, one to one correspondence, sequencing, predicting, graphing, estimation, problem solving, character education, and letter and sound recognition.
90 minutes each day students are given pre-reading experiences by learning to decode words, learning letter sounds, and discovering word families.
Students are exposed to mathematical, scientific, and sociological concepts by using manipulatives and "real" experiences to further enhance learning.
